This morning the fifth graders came in to find that unlike most mornings, there was no morning work. They were able to chat and settle in at a leisurely pace. It came as a surprise to me when students asked for extra copies of the quick quiz so they could use the chatting time to practice. It came as more of a surprise when another fifth grader asked for function machine work (we are working on developing pre-algebraic thinking through function machines).
I found this quote on an old piece of paper this morning. I am not sure who said it, and I am not sure when it was said. I do know it was this year by one of the current fifth graders.
In reference to the author of a dictionary, "Webster, we owe him so much."
