Fourth and fifth graders brought their farm trip books to dinner. The students had some questions to ask their hosts. Though our interviews were executed with varying levels of comfort, students learned important and sometimes surprising information.
In bold you will see the question that we asked. In light print you will see responses from a couple of families.
What toys did or do you play with?
* The girls played with dolls. Did a lot without t.v.
* Likes to play outside, bikes, play with dogs
* Play with toy tractors
What do you do for entertainment?
* Summer- hiking Winter- ice skating
* Read a book, ride a bike or play the piano
* Read- history, variety, missionary
* Play with a friend, likes to read, she likes historical fiction
How do you worship God?
* Read the Bible, go to church
* Pray, singing, go to church
* Church, singing, Lovefeast two times a year
* Read the Bible go to church, sing
Do you vote?
* No, just the way it is.
* No, Jesus teaches the separation of church and state
* No, personally it says to pray for your leaders. Try not to get into politics. We are supposed to pray for them.
* We don't vote at all. We don't vote because we feel the government is separate from the church, so we don't want to be a part of it.
During the conversations at the house where I ate, we found out that the children we were visiting didn't know what skateboards were. We were shocked, but then again, we didn't know turkeys were known for being stubborn. Funny how we all know different things.
