Dear 4th and 5th grade families,
Happy New Year to you all! I hope you all enjoyed a restful, peaceful and fun-filled time together with your family over the holiday season.
I must say the Choristers gave a stunning performance at Las Posadas. Thank you all students and families for the hard work and support you have shown throughout the fall and mini terms. Your enthusiasm, energy and passion for beautiful music were clearly shared with the audience. Great job!
With entering the winter term and anticipating the spring term, this will be a time for many performances, both in and out of school. I am excited to be sharing about one that is coming up very soon! Please do understand that performing groups get invitations – and as long as I think it is a learning experience for our students and we have enough members participating, I will say “yes!” to the invitations, which sometimes mean taking invitations at the last minutes. I thank you parents and families in advance for your understanding and patience in this matter.
Please read the following carefully and return the form attached. It has an important piece of information about our upcoming community concert in Hoboken. I hope many of you will be able to participate, as this one will be fun! Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.

Event: Hoboken Community Concert celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Date: January 17, 2010 (Monday – school holiday)
Time: Concert is 4-5:30 p.m. (exact gathering time for singers will be announced closer of event)
Where: All Saints Episcopal Church on Washington Street and 7th Street in Hoboken
Dress: White Spring Concert T-shirt from 2010 (Soundscape) with blue jeans
There is a possibility of doing a dress rehearsal with the band prior to concert. This will be small group only. I will announce who the small group may be as soon as I have all the information.
What will we be doing?
This is a concert where our Hoboken community comes together to celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Some local schools, including Hoboken Charter School and Hudson School are performing, as well as professional and amateur musicians throughout the local community. All performances will be accompanied by the House Band – yes, our singers will be singing with the band! This is our 5th year in participating this event. This year the format of the concert is a little different from last year and all children participating will sing as a community choir. We will sing Siyahamba and Free at Last. 5th graders will also recite the poetry learned in classroom. Ms. Hanson and I will be there along with other teachers as chaperones, but all parents are invited and encouraged to come to the concert. There will be a small entrance fee for the families to come into the concert. Performers enter free. The past four years this has been an incredibly fun and exciting event for our students. I am thrilled that we get to participate again.
