A couple of things to think about on your icy day:
1. If you haven't come up with a Particularly Lovely Number yet, this is a great day to do it! If you have found one Particularly Lovely Number, find another, or make a lovely explanation of your thinking.
2. We are going on a field trip on Friday! The fourth grade has invited us to come along with them to Stevens Institute. We will be walking over to the Institute on Friday afternoon, so make sure you wear appropriate gear! We will leave after lunch; the day will feel pretty normal except for our trip after lunch.
What will we do?
We will visit the ocean tank at Stevens Institute of Technology. Professor Tom Herrington will show the students ocean currents, and explain the effects of pollution on the ocean. Professor Herrington also will tell the students how scientists followed the BP oil slick, and the equipment they used to do so. Professor Herrington is one of Mrs. McCallihan's science professors at Stevens, and also was consulted by President Obama during the BP oil crisis.
You will be able to connect our knowledge of pollution from 4th grade and you will also get a preview for our shipwreck study. In the spring, we will study shipwrecks and the ocean's impact on sea travel. Learning about how currents move objects through the water will be important to our spring study.
